In 1998, Ehsan Bayat founded Telephone Systems International, Inc., for the sole purpose of establishing a company in Afghanistan to provide mobile telephone and Internet services. Afghan Wireless Communication Company, delayed for two years with the 1999 U.S. banning of trade with the Taliban, took off again after the Bonn Agreement in 2001 brought a new government and new hope to Afghanistan.
